Roll: Roller Mines
« on: November 19, 2009, 02:20:44 am »

  • What they do!
    • They follow enemies applying a good amount of damage once close enough.
  • Can they be destroyed?
    • Roller Mines have 500hp and every time they damage an enemy it hurts itself in the process.
  • How much?
    • 50 Credits
  • Any limits?
    • Each team can only have 10 active Roller Mines

Thanks to CarlZalph for coding this  :)

Yeah, you don't want to see what happens when you start getting a bunch of roller mines on the map. Think I had like 60 of them and my computer started to get very laggy.

You removed the part to make it not hurt itself?

As stated previously (in some other thread...about something else) there are currently no extensions that allow the sentry to target a custom entity (spiders, rollermines).

It would be really awesome if there was a way to be able to call your roller mine back to you.

Lol, weren't they removed by request of the original Suggester?  And i told jarrett to change the wiki yesterday since it hadn't been updated.

Yeah, Rollermines were removed at the request of the creator (didn't want their code public). I updated the Rollermines wiki, and telespheres didn't even have a wiki page yet, so :P .

Wait, Carl requested this was removed?! But... I loved rollermines :( Now I'll have to go and beg him to allow us to have them again, surely we don't need to release the code to the public if Carl doesn't want us to?

    Doesn't work that way.

The rtdgaming code is released under the GNU GPL v3. Basically:

    c) You must license the entire work, as a whole, under this License to anyone who comes into possession of a copy.  This License will therefore apply, along with any applicable section 7 additional terms, to the whole of the work, and all its parts, regardless of how they are packaged.  This License gives no permission to license the work in any other way, but it does not invalidate such permission if you have separately received it.

Without changing the code dramatically, we couldn't just not release one part of it. The remaining code has to have the reference to that portion of it, and once you add that reference, it's really going to start falling under that license.

Edit: Please note my understanding of license issues could be wrong here, but that's what I understand.
